If a skin cancer is detected during your consultation and surgical excision is recommended, the procedure will be explained to you.
Operating facilities for Dermatology SA are at Dulwich, Salisbury and Mount Barker. The surgery is performed under local anaesthetic. You will be awake during the procedure so you do not need to fast prior to surgery. It is best to arrange for a relative or friend to bring you to and from the clinic on the day of surgery. Consideration will need to be given to your general medical problems and the medications you are taking. You may need antibiotic cover for the procedure.
Following surgery an appointment will be made so that we can discuss the pathologist’s report, check that your wound is healing, and remove the sutures.
