Skin Checks

Dermatologists have special training including the diagnosis and management of skin cancers, making them the most trained experts in this.

A complete check of all the skin can be useful to find cancerous and precancerous lesions early, in addition to regular self examination and reporting of any suspicious lesions.

Removing any makeup and nail polish prior to the appointment will aid detection of concerning lesions.

The dermatologist may also examine suspicious moles with a hand held magnifying device called a dermatoscope (see dermscopy) during a skin check.
