Skin Biopsy

A skin biopsy is a minor surgical procedure done to establish the diagnosis of your rash or tumour. Following local anaesthetic injection into the affected area, a small core of skin of approximately 3 to 4mm in diameter is removed. A suture is placed to close the wound. The tissue is then sent to a Pathologist who will carefully examine it under a microscope. At an appointment one week later a consultation is required for suture removal, discussion of the pathology report and formulation of a management plan for your skin condition..
